HazelGold Ltd

Link, search and directory service
to ensure your site is easy to find.

Once your web site has been published to a host it becomes available to anyone who wishes to see it or browse the world-wide web. The fact they can see it does not mean that they will. Your visitors need to be able to find your site. You can recommend people look at your site and tell them your domain name, but that's not what gets most visitors. They find it by using a links, search engines or directories.

Links

One of the most used ways of finding a web site is by following links from another site or in an email. If you use email, then you can put your domain name in the "electronic signature" so it will go out on every email you send.

You can ask other people to put links onto their web sites and often people exchange links. I'll put your link on my web site - please put a my link on your site.

HazelGold will put a link on several of the sites it controls which are already in a good network of links.

Search Engines

When anyone browsing the web wants to find out about a new subject they usually try one or more Search Engines such as Google. These are web sites which broadly have 2 functions.

Continually search the web using their own program called a spider (a process called spidering). It follows links and records selected information from each page it visits. It also deletes information for pages which are no longer available.

Allow users to carry out searches. When a user enters a combination of words the search engine find the best fit from a record of the sites/pages it has already spidered.

Most search engines allow you to go onto their site and submit a site for inclusion in its spidering process. This service is not guaranteed and can take a while to complete. Also many free services are now being replaced by a paid for service. HazelGold will not use paid for services unless this is requested by the customer. It will, however endeavour to get new sites listed on several major search engines including Google.

If an established web site is already known to a search engine, then all its links will be periodically spidered. Therefore a new web site which is given a link on the established site will be included as if it had been submitted directly to the search engine. More links on more established web sites will improve the standing of the new site in all the search engines which apply.

A second important factor in getting seen by a search engine is to ensure your page provides the information which the search engine uses. Search engines look for text, especially text which is close to the beginning of the web page. HazelGold will provide meaningful page titles, headings and meta tag keywords which are used by search engines.

Directories

A Directory is quite similar to a search engine except that it is not dynamic. It does not use a spidering program, but relies on manual input of all of its information. One such directory is the Open Directory Project. HazelGold will submit your site to this directory.
